Creative Sustainability SolutionsThe Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of an eco-house conducted at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Nottingham was designed to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of an eco-friendly residential building. This study aimed to assess the sustainability of eco-houses as a viable alternative to conventional housing, focusing on their long-term environmental performance. The LCA methodology applied to the eco-house project covered the entire lifecycle, from material extraction and construction to energy consumption during the operational phase and eventual demolition or recycling. The study analyzed key environmental indicators, such as Global Warming Potential (GWP), energy usage, water consumption, carbon footprint, and the embodied energy of the materials used in the house. The project aimed to assess the effectiveness of sustainable building practices, such as the use of renewable energy systems, energy-efficient materials, and eco-friendly construction techniques. The LCA model helped identify areas where the eco-house design minimized resource depletion and environmental degradation, particularly focusing on reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency. Comparative analysis was also conducted to evaluate the environmental performance of the eco-house against that of traditional housing models. This comparison highlighted the significant environmental benefits of incorporating renewable energy sources, energy-efficient building materials, and sustainable living practices in residential buildings. The results of the LCA provided valuable insights for architects, developers, and policymakers interested in promoting sustainable building practices. The findings also contributed to the growing body of research on environmentally responsible construction, demonstrating the potential for eco-houses to significantly reduce environmental impacts while providing affordable, sustainable housing options for the future.
